As a young child, Doris learned to play the piano. While still in high school she served as the church pianist for Temple Baptist Church in Winnsboro, Louisiana where her father, Rev. Allen Drost, served as minister of music. Her love for music took her to Louisiana College in Pineville to study voice, piano and organ. There she accompanied many soloists, choral groups and chorus. "It was as much a joy to see her play the piano as it was to hear her music" family members have said. Throughout her life Doris was devoted to her Lord, her family and her gift of music.
At age 52, she returned to Louisiana College to further her music studies. During this time she was able to fulfill a lifelong dream to play the pipe organ in Guinn Auditorium for chapel. Her beautiful smile, enthusiastic personality, and musical talents will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by 4 children, Michelle Nordstrom of Houston, Texas, Rachel Bruce, William Nordstrom and Kristin Nordstrom; and 4 grandchildren, parents, Rev. Allen and Ruth Drost of Sulphur, Siblings, Ernie and Susan Drost of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Eric and Margaret Burns of Tennessee.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 in Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Reverend Doyle Evans will officiate. Burial will be at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will resume on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.
