Gerald Edmund “Strider” Schell, 74, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. He was born to Lorenz and Audrey Schell on September 1, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan. Gerald was a 1968 graduate of Sulphur High School in Sulphur, Louisiana and then attended college at LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He lived in Washington, D.C. where he worked for Comcast as a network administrator in the IT department. He was big into computer technology and taught classes in the field of computer animation. In his early years, he worked as a disc jockey with KPLC-FM in Lake Charles, and Washington station, DC101. Gerald finally retired to Houston, Texas, where he’s lived for the past five years.
He is survived by his two siblings, Lorraine Barrow and her husband, Roy, of Sulphur, Louisiana and Andrew Schell of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law, Donna Schell of Austin, Texas; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Randall Schell and Larry Schell.
A Celebration of Gerald’s life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at 2:00 pm, with Hixson Celebrant Jody Tyler. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
