She was a born in Mamou and moved to Ville Platte at age 10. She later moved to Sulphur where she resided 70 plus years. Gloria was the housewife of Malcolm (Buddy) Sr. and loving mother of six children. She was an accomplished “oil” artist & a member of the Beaumont Art Club. In her early years she enrolled in a Western Union school where she learned to operate the Telegraph and Morse Code language. She would later use her knowledge in the Western Union offices of Houston and Los Angeles. Gloria also worked in the Louisiana State Capital in Baton Rouge where she processed Korean war veteran’s applications.
Before she met the love of her life, our father, she worked in her mother and step father’s restaurant “Chanticleer” in Sulphur on Napoleon St. (Hwy 90). Our mother loved the sights and sounds of the seashore and the many types of shells to be found there. It was here, in this natural setting, that she was inspired to paint. She loved to watch old movies and could name each actor. She also loved music and dancing and in particular, the voice of Andrea Bocelli. She loved the Lord Jesus and was one of the original members of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Gloria was very proud of her children and grandchildren…. Her legacy. She was our Matriarch, our pillar, our example. We will miss her immensely!
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Kevin W. Gibson and wife Deborah of Sulphur, Wade A. Gibson and wife Phyllis of Sulphur, Julie A. Gibson Cormie and husband Tim of Bastrop, TX., Malcolm L. Gibson Jr. and wife Darla of Sulphur, William R. Gibson and spouse Luis of Princeton, TX,; one brother, Gary Brignac and wife Anne of Rio Rancho, NM; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Laurie, Zach, Jamie, Ashley, Candy, Jared, Amanda (Mandy), and Brandi; numerous great grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, Joanne Horton and Millie Cockfield; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 50 years, Malcolm "Buddy" Gibson Sr.; son, Richard J. Gibson; grandson, Logan Gibson; two brothers, Wayne A. Brignac and Calvin Brignac.
The family would like to express deepest appreciation to Patsy McFarlain and JoAnn Comeaux for their enduring special care and compassion they showed to our mother. A special thanks to Heart of Hospice for their care and support in these last months.
