Homer Charles Doty Jr., 91, of Sulphur, LA joined his Heavenly Father on November 6, 2018. He was born December 24, 1926 in Franklin, LA to Homer Charles Sr. and Edith Doty. In 1943 at the age of seventeen, he answered the call to serve and joined the United States Navy. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Staunch, serving as a radar man and gunner, receiving military honors upon being discharged. The U.S.S. Staunch participated in several major battles, earning four battle stars. In 1948 he married the love of his life, Louise, and they were blessed with seven children.
The most important passion of his life was his family. He was a talented artist, crafting beautiful items from metal and wood. He was a member of Local 106 Plumber/Steamfitters Union for over 50 years. As a welding instructor, he shared his love and dedication with the students of the apprenticeship program for over twenty years. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included Bridge, Canasta, dancing, bowling, golfing, pool, and creating beautiful objects.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Louise; four sons, Homer (Rosie) Doty III of Lake Charles, Michael (Debbie) Doty of Ragley, David (Becky) Doty of Carlyss, and Robert (Gloria) Doty of Carlyss; three daughters, Rhonda (Franklin) Doty Nance of Houston, TX, Debbie Doty Cook of Seabrook, TX, Patricia (Don) Doty Rougeau of Weston Lakes, TX; one sister, Ann Landry of TN; twenty grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by three sisters, Flosie Lee Baugh, Edith Helene Johnson, and Ruby Vincent.
Visitation will be on November 8, 2018 at Hixson Funeral Home of Sulphur, LA from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and a Cursillo Rosary at 6:30pm. Visitation to resume on November 9, 2018 from 8:00am to 10:30am. Funeral Services to be officiated by Father Goodly at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church beginning at 11:00am. Internment to follow at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles.
