

Jack was a native and lifelong resident of the Sulphur-Carlyss area, where he and his brother owned and operated the Lawton Ranch. He was a graduate of Sulphur High School where he was a two-time All State football player and a one-time All State basketball player. In 1983, he helped fund and support the first Louisiana chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association and remained a longtime member and strong advocate. He was an avid sportsman, thoroughly enjoying hunting and fishing not only throughout the region, but also around the world. Jack loved his family tremendously and he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, father-in-law, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Coonie" Sonnier Lawton of Carlyss; his son, Jack E. Lawton, Jr. and wife, Holly Bugg Lawton; his grandchildren, Leslie Fay Edwards, Candace Scroggs, Jacob Lawton, and Zoey Reed; and his great-grandchildren, Niko Edwards, Milo Edwards, Aidan Devall, Camille Reed, Charlotte Scroggs, Isaac Scroggs, and Margo Lawton. He is preceded in death by his brother, William Burton Lawton; and his parents, Joseph and Evelyn Burton Lawton.
A private graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 13, in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
