James Kendell Burton, Jr., 85, of Sulphur, Louisiana passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025. He was born on October 20, 1939 in Cameron, Louisiana. He worked for Shell Oil for 35 years and upon retirement, he bought a farm and started cattle ranching. This was a dream come true for James. He was a part of the Beauregard Cattleman’s Association where he was President from 2004-2005. James was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Judith “Judie” Kay Landry Burton; two daughters, Janna Kaye Burton Elder of Sulphur, Louisiana and Joanie Burton Andrew of Katy, Texas; three grandchildren, Kaye Kirby (Will), Andrea Kellar, and Cameron Andrew; two great grandchildren, Beau Kirby and Caroline Kaye Kirby; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Octavia and Rodney Guilbeau Sr.; father and stepmother, James K. Sr. and Katie Burton; sister, Rose Schram; sons-in-law, Carey Elder and Jim Andrew; along with his grandson, Kaplan Andrew.
A Celebration of James’s life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 12:30 pm, with Deacon Patrick LaPoint, Sr. officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, beginning at 10:30 am, with a Rosary at 12:00 pm, followed by the service at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss, Louisiana.
