He was a native of New Iberia where he was a graduate of Catholic High School, and had been a resident of Sulphur for the last 35 years. Jim was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include his children, Michael Fontenot of Carlyss and Tanya Presley of Lake Charles; step-son, Kendal Shipp of Sulphur; siblings, Al Fontenot of Mire, and Joyce Dupont and Mary Ann Brice, both of Welsh; and grandchildren, Dylan Purvis and Caleb Presley. He is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Gibson Fontenot.
