

He was a native and lifelong resident of Sulphur. Kent was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran and was a member of the Woodmen of the World. He retired from Firestone after over 40 years of service and also owned and operated Hometown Furniture for the last 27 years.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Judith Portie; two sons, Keith Portie and wife, Melissa, and Kevin Portie and wife, Jennifer; two daughters, Suzanne Portie Jagneaux and husband, Lawrence, and Stephanie Dawn Binion Knauf, all of Sulphur; one brother, Buddy Portie and wife, Joy of Lake Charles; one sister, Marie Bailey of Sulphur; his aunt, Betty Hoffner of Sulphur; eight grandchildren, Adrienne Broussard, Leighton Eloi, Gage Eloi, Slade Eloi, Christopher Portie, Elizabeth Portie, Madelyn Portie, and Jordan Fregia, and a granddaughter on the way, Alyssa Portie; and two great-granddaughters, Halie and Kailey Broussard.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. David Holder will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery North in Sulphur.
