

A native of Hamilton, Texas, J.D. has resided in Sulphur for over 50 years. He served in the United States Marine Corp and later began working as a self-employed painting contractor, retiring in 2001. He had a passion for horses, and enjoyed owning as well as training Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds. J.D. loved anything western, especially books and movies. He often amused family and friends with his gift of storytelling.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Patricia Brooks; three children, Terri Burns(Terry) of Vinton, Jana Hedgecock (Harold) of Thornton, CO and Robert Brooks(Ann) of Montgomery, TX; two stepchildren, Michael Moss(Lynda) of Carlyss and Sheryl Chambers (Charlie) of Conroe, TX; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. His memory will also be cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James I. and Esley Brooks; sister, Shirley Jean Kettinger; two brothers, Calvin and Dennis Brooks.
His funeral service will be at 2 pm, Monday, March 2, 2015 in Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Bradley Swire will officiate. Interment will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery North.
