She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and spent the majority of her life in Sulphur. A proud graduate of Sulphur High School, Joan went on to attend McNeese State University, where she was a Cowbell Majorette and a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. A woman of deep faith, Joan was an active member of Houston River Baptist Church, where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher. She also shared her love for teaching at First Baptist Church in Sulphur, where she taught both Sunday School and Mother's Day Out programs. Joan dedicated over 25 years to education, beginning her career teaching elementary grades and later joining the faculty at Sulphur High School, where she taught business courses until her retirement. Above all, Joan loved her family deeply. She cherished time spent with them, especially her beloved grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, John Faulk of Carlyss; her children, John Faulk, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Iowa, Tina Kinney and husband, Chuck of Carlyss, and JimBob Faulk and wife, Karen of Franklin, Tennessee; her brother, Randall Key and wife, Susan of Carlyss; her grandchildren, Devin Burnett, Taylor Faulk, Blair Swearingen, Chelsea Mouton, Sarah Faulk, William Faulk, Thomas Faulk, and Brylea O'Quinn; and great-grandchildren, Gavin Burnett, McKynsie Burnett, Thales Mouton, Aubin Mouton, Weston Swearingen, Brye Burnett, and Joah O'Quinn. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Marie Key.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 26, at Houston River Baptist Church. Pastor Lonnie Gothrup will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Gavin Burnett, Brandon Burnett, Chuck Kinney, Thomas Faulk, William Faulk, Thales Mouton, Taylor Faulk, and Ryan Swearingen. Honorary pallbearers will be Weston Swearingen and Aubin Mouton. Visitation will be held at the church from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the church.
