John was born May 26, 1937, in Church Point, La. He was a 1956 graduate of Sulphur High School, attended Sam Houston State and McNeese State University and proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He began his career in criminal justice as a Border Patrol Officer and then worked 20 years for the U.S. Treasury Department, U.S. Customs Service, where he advanced to the position of Assistant District Director. He was recommended four times for the National Treasury Department Award, the Treasury Department’s highest honor. He served as National Vice President of the U.S. Customs Association and was a past member of the Maplewood Lion’s Club. John had been an investigator with the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office for the past 18 years.
He enjoyed being outdoors, grilling, fishing and playing bass guitar with his family. John mostly enjoyed surrounding himself with family and friends and cherished Sunday family dinners.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Reba Dowies AndrePont; four daughters, Ronda Davison and husband, Robert Davison of Houston, Texas; Tonette “Toni” AndrePont of Wylie, Texas; Michelle “Mickie” AndrePont and partner, Darlene Sweatman of Shreveport, La.; and Nicole AndrePont of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Shannon Davison, Amanda Long, Callie Moseley, Janese Davison, Garen Long, Travis Davison, Trey Short and Mikaela Williams; three great-grandchildren, Skie, Josh and Laylin; two godchildren, Judy AndrePont Hoffpauir and J.T. Fontenot; siblings, Burt AndrePont and wife, Thelma; Betty Sonnier and husband, Joseph G.; Albert AndrePont, and wife Kathi; and Mark AndrePont; sister-in-law, Audrey AndrePont Fontenot; and beloved extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Lee AndrePont and mother, Agnes Elkins AndrePont; brother, Leander AndrePont; and grandson, Kevin Davison.
Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Omar Gunter will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2013, from 5 — 9 p.m with a rosary at 6 p.m. followed by a musical reflection of John’s life. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at 2 p.m. until time of service. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
