Sulphur- Joyce Mirene Self Gaskin, 82, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015, in a local hospital.
Joyce was a native of Anacoco and had been a resident of Sulphur for the last 43 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Sulphur where she had served in many ministries of the church. Ms. Joyce loved her family and was steadfast in her devotion to them. In later years, she enjoyed reading, playing computer games, and watching FOX News.
Survivors include daughters, Judy Moore and husband, Bill, Kathy Bonsall and husband, Lloyd, and son, Bill Gaskin and wife, Katharine, all of Sulphur; granddaughter, Jessica Steinhauser and husband, Chad of Sulphur; grandsons, Seth Gaskin and wife, Emily of Westlake, Cody Moore currently of Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, and Trevor Gaskin of Sulphur; great-grandchildren, Payton Savoy of Sulphur, Audrey, Tyler, Zoe, and Zaley Gaskin of Westlake, and Ryan and Megan Steinhauser of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and brother, James Self of Dry Prong; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, William E. "Bill" Gaskin, Jr; her step-father, Jess Tingle; her parents, Daniel Self, Sr. and Nellie Self Tingle; brother, Daniel Self, Jr.; and sisters, Bertie Lee Evans and Rachel Self.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, October 26, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Lamar Huffman will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the time of service Monday in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and also family friend, Neal Singleton.
