

Funeral services for Julius Thomas "Babe" Palumbo, 95, will be at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sulphur with the Rev. Jim Benbrook officiating. Burial will be at 12 Noon in Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Orange, Texas, under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday, in the church.
Mr. Palumbo died Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in a local care facility. He was born to Leonardo Palumbo and Lillie Rosetta in Port Arthur, Texas.
He was a 1937 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School of Port Arthur. He served in the National Guard and he was a WWII army veteran. He held a degree in Diesel Engine Mechanics from California. He retired from Local 106 after 40 years as a Welder. He lived in Sulphur for 50 years and was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. His passionate hobby was inventing and he held numerous patents. He also loved vegetable and fruit gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Juanita Pepper Palumbo of Lake Charles, One son Victor Palumbo Sr. of Lolita, Texas; three daughters Carolyn Owens, Virginia Palumbo Ellen Palumbo, all of Lake Charles; one brother, Louis "Buddy" Palumbo of Nederland, Texas; one sister, Lillie Palumbo of Groves, Texas; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son Julius Thomas "Tommy" Palumbo, Jr., parents, two brothers, Sam Lena and Joseph Palumbo, and one sister, Virginia Slover.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. The family would like to thank Resthaven Nursing Home for their devoted care of our loved one.
