Kaitlyn Hope McNiel passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026. A beautiful life cut short at the age of 28. Katie was born in Lake Charles on July 23, 1998, to Jake and Louanna. Katie brought an unforgettable light and energy to the world and was known for her infectious laugh, kind heart, compassionate soul and carefree spirit.
Kaitlyn’s adventurous spirit showed in the life she built around curiosity and adventure. She enjoyed traveling, going on spontaneous adventures, and riding 4 wheelers whenever she could. She loved hunting with her dad but also loved all animals - a reflection of her tender heart. She loved music, cooking and trying new recipes. Above all else, she treasured spending time with her loved ones, especially her children, nieces and nephews.
Though her path was often winding and sometimes lined with challenges, she met it head on with resilience, stubbornness and fierce devotion. She offered her strength to others through service, giving back as a sobriety sponsor for those walking difficult paths that mirrored her own. Kaitlyn served as Chapter Vice Chair and Chapter Secretary at the Oxford House, roles that reflected her steady compassion, her strength, and her willingness to stand beside others with patience, encouragement and selflessness.
Those closest to her knew that when Katie loved, she loved hard. She was a devoted presence in the lives of many. Katie was, above all else, a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a friend.
Those left to cherish her beautiful memory are her daughter, Elaina Marie McNiel; significant other, Ty Emerson Barfield; bonus babies: Dauson Gaspard, Isabella Barfield, Delilah Barfield, Kaiden Manard and Ava Barfield; sisters: Aranda Yahya, Casandra Clark (Daniel), Lacci McNiel, and Shanna Dailey (Jeffrey); mother-in-law, K. Satarie “Big Momma” Barfield; sister in law, Kyrstin Phillips; nieces and nephews: Makenzie Dyson (Cade), PaigeLynn Dyson (Lain), Lyndzi Dyson (Kamren), Phillip Dyson III, Logan Clark, Landen Clark, Kadence Clark, Zackery Dyson, Ava Dyson, Taylor Carlin, Brayden Carlin, Kyleigh Alaniz, Kayden Dailey, and Kyla Dailey; along with 6 great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her friends and other extended family.
Kaitlyn is preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Louanna McNiel; her grandparents; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as a great nephew.
Katie was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
