Larry "Tomato" Gayle Provost, 76, of Sulphur, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025. He was born to his late parents, Alfain and Carmelite Provost on June 19, 1949 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was employed with Firestone and also worked for the U.S. Government Department of Energy as an Energy Site Manager. Larry also worked for Calcasieu Parish Schools where he was a small engine mechanic teacher. Larry was an excellent cook and cooked for various business functions and celebrations. His specialty for those events was Jambalaya, Gumbo, and Brisket, which were always a favorite. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and raising his chickens. Gayle and Larry were elected 1984 King and Queen of the Krewe of Cosmos and he was also the Captain of the 2021 Mardi Gras Ball in the Krewe des Danseur Fou. In his early years, he coached his children's various sports and also loved attending sporting events for his children and grandchildren. Most of all, he loved his family very much.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Gayle Aguillard Provost; daughter, Jessica Lynn Provost (Jill) of Sulphur, Louisiana; son, Christopher Keith Provost (Laura) of Carlyss, Louisiana; brother, Patrick Provost (Joan) of Sulphur, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Diane Provost of Arlington, Texas; Goddaughters, Lisa McIntyre, Amber Provost, and Linda Ankner; two granddaughters, Emma Claire Stevens and Abby Kate Stevens; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Rodney Provost and James Provost and his wife Geneva; along with his niece, Laurie Provost.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur, Louisiana on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 12:00 pm, with the Bishop Provost officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. Following the Rosary, there will be a time of remembrances with family and friends. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 9:00 am until the procession to the church. Burial will be at Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss, Louisiana.
