Lawrence Clayton Longenbaugh Jr., 76, of Sulphur, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. He was born on November 28, 1946 in Crowley, Louisiana. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. "Butch" had an incredible work ethic and was extremely successful in the car business, most of which was with the Shetler family. He had many friends and was known for his kindness and generosity. He enjoyed bowling, playing golf, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and especially loved watching LSU and the Dallas Cowboys. He delighted in all things family and was enormously proud of his children. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He was known as "Grumps" to them and many of their friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. They knew his one promise: "any time, any place, any thing" and they freely took him up on it! He would tell you that he was the luckiest man in the world to have married the love of his life and always thanked his brother-in-law, CJ, for arranging that first double date.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol Joan Longenbaugh; son, Jake Longenbaugh of Sulphur; daughters, Lisa Marie Longenbaugh (Melanie Aycock) of Monroe, Louisiana, and Jill Longenbaugh Fills of Sulphur; brother, Stephen Longenbaugh (Deborah) of Sulphur; brother-in-law, Clifton J. Guidry III of Crowley; sister-in-law, Mechelle Marie Guidry of Breaux Bridge; three grandchildren, Fisher Clayton, Tate Michael, and Maggie Mae Fills as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Vera Mae Spell; and Lawrence Longenbaugh, Sr. and Esta Mae Longenbaugh; father-in-law, Clifton J. Guidry Jr., mother-in-law, Joan Hickman Guidry and sister-in-law, Angelle Mary Guidry.
An LSU themed celebration of Butch's life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at 4:00 pm, with Hixson Celebrant Jody Barrilleaux officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 pm. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Wellspring Alliance for Families, Inc. in Monroe, Louisiana (www.wellspringofnela.org).
