Lawrence "Larry" Eugene Mouton

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence "Larry" Eugene Mouton on Monday, July 27, 2026. He was born to his late parents, Lawrence L. and Vivian Mouton on January 29, 1939 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Larry was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

Larry was a proud graduate of LaGrange High School, where he played every sport there was. His love of sports never faded. He loved watching baseball, football, basketball, and track and field. After his playing days, he found even more joy in coaching. He coached baseball and softball for each of his children, and some of their favorite memories with him were made on those ball fields.

Larry believed in hard work and took pride in everything he did. He spent 17 years as a bricklayer before beginning a 30-year career at PPG, where he eventually retired. He also believed in giving back to his community, serving 17 years on the SPAR Board and 43 years on the Calcasieu Water Works District No. 9 Board. He cared deeply about his community; the place he called home and was always willing to help however he could.

When he wasn't working, you could usually find him fishing or building something in his shop. He could make just about anything with his hands, whether it was a simple wooden trash can or a hand-painted mural that turned something ordinary into something special. If it needed to be built or fixed, he was always happy to do it.

Larry and his wife, Elizabeth, shared 61 wonderful years together. They loved hunting for antiques and filling their home with pieces that meant something to them. Their home reflected the life they built together and the many memories they shared.

More than anything, Larry loved his family. He was happiest when everyone was together, whether it was at the ballpark or simply sitting around talking and telling stories. Larry looked forward to Sundays, when the family gathered at the house. Those afternoons filled with food, laughter and stories were some of his happiest times.

Larry is survived by his children: Tim (Cheryl) Mouton, Cindy (Pat) Ray, Joey (Margie) Mouton, Carrie Lavergne, Candy Mouton, and Courtney Pearce.

He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Caycie Lavergne, T-Paul Lavergne, Britney (Nick) Woodley, Emily (Kyle) Lavergne, Alexis (Sarah) Mouton, Alicia Mouton, Rhemi Pearce and Mallie Rouse; and his great-grandchildren, Olivia Woodley and Callum Boner.

Larry is also survived by his sister, Sharon Creppel, and his brothers, John (Gina) Mouton and Kenny (Kim) Mouton.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Mouton; his daughter, Christina "Tina" Mouton; and his parents, Lawrence and Vivian Mouton.

Larry will be remembered for the life he lived, the stories he loved to tell, and the example he set for his family. To his children, he was simply Dad. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was Paw, and there wasn't a better one. He was the kind of man who could fix just about anything, was always there when someone needed him, and loved his family with his whole heart.

One thing Larry often said was, "I lived a good life." Anyone who knew him would agree that he truly did. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply, a lifetime of memories, and a legacy that will live on in all of us. He will be missed more than words can say.

A Celebration of Larry's life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 11:00 am, with Paul Schuldes officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Thursday, from 9:00 am until the time of the service.
