She was a native of Leroy, Louisiana and had been a resident of Sulphur for over 50 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sulphur where she and her husband, Ross, proudly started the church rose garden. She continued caring for the garden after his passing in 2002. Leona taught French and English for many years at Maplewood Middle School, Westlake High School, and W.W. Lewis Middle School. She enjoyed sewing, especially for her children and then her grandchildren, gardening, square dancing with “The Swinging Rebels”, and traveling with her husband. Their favorite place to visit was Branson, Missouri. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Survivors include her children, Charlotte Smith and husband, Ed Ray of Sulphur, Dorothy Schwab and husband, Carl of Carrollton, Texas, Arthur “Art” Ross Morgan and wife, Storm of Denver, Colorado, and Niel Morgan and wife, Claire of Allen, Texas; seventeen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elic Ross Morgan; her parents, Eloi and Claire Landry (of Leroy, Louisiana); and her sister, Mary Lou Carter.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sulphur. The Rev. Paul White will officiate. Burial will be in Indian Bayou Methodist Church Cemetery in Indian Bayou under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
