

She was a native of Ponca City, Oklahoma and had lived in Sulphur for most of her life. She was a Registered Nurse with West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital and had worked 35 years in the nursery. After her retirement, she and her husband, Kenneth moved to the Many-Toledo Bend area. Maxine returned to Sulphur in 2012 to be cared for by her family. She was a member of Aimwell Baptist Church in Many.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert "Bob" Burk of Sulphur, and Dennis Ray Burk Sr. and wife, Sandra of DeRidder; one sister, Barbara Sue Wright of Sulphur; numerous nieces and nephews; and although she never beared any children of her own, she had many! She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Kenneth Thompson; her parents, William and Leona Burk; two brothers, William and Donald Burk; and a sister, Jerolyn Elizabeth Burk Heyse.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. in Aimwell Baptist Church in Zwolle. Jody Barilleaux and Rev. Jim Phaup will officiate. Burial will be in Aimwell Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Donald Scarborough, David Burk, Bill Burk, Dennis Burk Jr, Jason Douga, and Richard Miller Jr. The family would like to thank the staff of West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital ICU and also the staff of Stonebridge Place Assisted Living for their excellent care of Maxine.
