Linda Gilbreath Doucet-Merchant, 74, passed away peacefully in her home in Vinton, Louisiana on March 1, 2020. Linda was born February 5, 1946 in Jennings, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Doucet, and her parents, Claude William and Joyce Gilbreath.
In her lifetime, she devoted herself to her family, those she loved, and her Catholic faith. She sold real estate from 1999 to 2017. In her spare time, she was an active participant in the Women’s Commission of Southwest Louisiana. She often spent time reading, travelling, shopping, and decorating her home.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Jennifer Doucet Norris and husband, John of Cypress, Texas and Paige Doucet Reeves and husband, Sam of Sulphur; her husband of 4 years, Jerry Merchant of Vinton; her grandchildren, Kelsey Norris Kelley and husband, Brian, Nicole Norris, Evan Norris, Olivia Reeves, Gillian Reeves, and Alex Reeves; her great-granddaughter, Amelia Kelley; her brother Dr. Claude William Gilbreath, Jr. and wife, Sandra of Hammond, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton. Rev. Carlos Garcia will officiate.
