

Lorraine was a native of New Iberia and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1948. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and also a proud recipient of KPLC's Hometown Hero. He was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church where he served as one of the first five lay ministers, the Knights of Columbus for over 70 years, where he served as Recorder for over 45 years, and was also a member of American Legion Post #179 and a 70 year member of I.B.E.W. Local #861. He received numerous awards including the Our Lady of Prompt Succor Service Award and Devoted Service Award from the Diocese of Lake Charles, among others. Lorraine was one of the founding parents of Our Lady School where he actively participated in the construction of the school. Mr. Oubre retired after 32 years of service as an electrician with Firestone Polymers. He enjoyed working on electronics, gardening, crossword puzzles, and was considered a "master piddler".
Survivors include his daughters, Pamela Whiteard and husband, Greg of Carlyss, Marie Fruge of Sulphur, and Aleta Lester and husband, Clayton of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Jeanne Lester, Mike Lester and wife, Anna, Brett Fruge, and Paige Fruge; and three great-grandchildren, Bree Fruge, Ian Lester, and Joyelle Lester. He is preceded in death by his spouses, Jeanne Marguerite Dubois Oubre and Rita Royer Oubre; his daughters, Joyce Oubre Appleby and Constance Oubre; and two sisters, Maline Trahan and Kinta Dautriel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 15, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward Brunnert, M.S. will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. and from 9 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
