Luther was born on December 23, 1925 in Ville Platt, La. After serving in the US Navy then the US Army he moved to Sulphur in 1953. He owned and operated Launey's Barber Shop for many years before working and retiring from Firestone Tire and Rubber. His hobbies were gardening and wood working. Luther was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
Those left behind to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Launey of Sulphur; four children, Luther "Louis" Launey, Jr. and wife, Sharon of Lake Charles, La, Karen Bonnin and husband, Chris of Mount Bellvieu, TX, Joseph "Joe" Launey and wife, Kathy of Georgetown, TX, and Lydia Launey of Beaumont, TX; six grandchildren, Brent Bonnin, Kayla Bonnin, Sean Launey, Kate Storro, Joey Launey, and Alissa Launey Plascencia, USMC; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Ryder Bonnin, and Kai and Emma Plascencia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Rita Launey, brother, William Launey, Jr., and sister, Joycelynn Holder.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Our Lady of Lasalette Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Prien Cemetery in Lake Charles.
