

Lyla Maxine Gamble was peacefully welcomed home by her precious Lord Jesus on Monday, November 13, 2017. Maxine was born October 12, 1925 in Bennett, Colorado. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Maxine was a very active member for many years at Houston River Baptist Church.
Maxine was a devoted, sacrificial housewife and mother for many years. She was known for her efficiency and mastery in the kitchen and making the most out of little in past lean years. She was especially adept at making her tasty meals and dishes meet high standards.
Maxine had a special fondness for country and farm themed décor throughout her house. Maxine loved the warmth of the “family circle.” She especially loved table games, particularly the game of Scrabble.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, George Gamble. She is survived by sons, Phillip Gamble and wife, Diane of Littleton, Colorado; Stephen Gamble of Sulphur; Timothy “Tim” Gamble and fiancé Karen of DeQuincy; and Darrell Gamble and wife, Connie of Le Bleu Settlement; daughters Linda Foster of Searcy, Arkansas; Cindy Carr and husband Rusty of Sulphur; Connie Herrick and husband David of Lake Charles; and Virginia “Ginger” Johnson and husband Randy of Sulphur. She is also survived by sisters Margaret Shuler of Denver, Colorado; Betty Hamilton of Denver, Colorado; Annalee Cogar of Midland, Georgia; and Paula Baer and husband Jimmy of Aurora, Colorado; brothers George Summers of Denver, Colorado; and David Summers and wife Sharon of Elbert, Colorado. Nine beloved grandchildren, Kevin Lee Herrick (Sarah), Kimberly Carr Gross (Michael), Russell Shane Carr (Kristi), Marie Yvette Johnson (Gary), Lisa Renee Smith (Dustin), Scott Phillip Gamble, Sr. (Ada), Nancy Nelson Young (Rob), Kelli Gibbons Broussard (Jacques) and Randall Gibbons; and twenty-five beloved great-grandchildren.
She is also preceded in death by her son, Ronald Dwayne Gamble in 1947; her parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Maxine’s funeral service will be Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Houston River Baptist Church with Pastor Lonnie Gothrup officiating. Visitation will also be at the church, Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 5 – 8 p.m. and continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday. Burial will be in the Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss, La.
