

She was a native of Rayne and lived in Sulphur for 54 years, where she attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. She loved tending to her ferns and plants; but her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially the tradition of Sunday lunch at Grandmother’s house.
Survivors include her daughters, Becky Mitchell and her husband Jim, of Lake Charles, and Ann Vallette and her husband Steve, of Sulphur; daughter-in-law, Janet Black of Sulphur; brother Cyprien Bourque of Rayne; grandchildren, Brittany Hymel and her husband Patrick, Brianne Black, Katie Mitchell, Jamie Mitchell, Stephanie Jensen, Catherine Carrier and her husband Justin, Elizabeth Simon and her husband Steven, and Chance Vallette and his wife Ashton; and 9 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Thomas W. Black; son Stephen Black; grandson John Thomas Mitchell; great grandson Jasper Jensen; brother Lester Bourque; and sister Anna Sellers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St Mary’s Residential and Training Facility, P.O. Drawer 7768, Alexandria, La. 71306.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 22, in Mimosa Pines Cemetery.
