Marilyn Jan Nelson, 75, of Sulphur, Louisiana passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025. She was born to her late parents, Bruce and Shirley Spell on July 23, 1949 in Sulphur, Louisiana. She worked at the Cal-Cam Fair as a secretary for many years. Marilyn had a great love for animals, especially her dog, Cooper. She also loved spending time with her family, which meant the world to her.
She is survived by her son, Dustin Bruce Duhon (Candis) of Sulphur, Louisiana; sister, Charlotte Goodfriend (Joe) of Sulphur, Louisiana; two grandchildren, Dayton Cole Duhon and Laney Grace Duhon; along with several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Stinky” Nelson; two brothers, Jimmy “Ding” Spell and Larry Bruce Spell; along with her parents.
A Celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 10:00 am, with Rev. James Moore officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Friday, from 8:30 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss, Louisiana.
