Marquis "MC" Simmons, Jr.,89, died Monday, November 23, 2009, in a local hospital. He was a native of Sulphur who attended Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #424, Lake Charles Scottish Rites, the Habibi Shriners, Lions Club, ROMEOS, Louisiana Marshall's Association, and the Wesley United Methodist Men's Club. MC was Ward 4 Marshall for 26 years. Prior to that he worked for several years in the oil fields and owned Simmons West Point Citgo for 7 years. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years Ethel Simmons; daughters Lenore Smith of New Orleans and Sue Cline and her husband Carter of Houston, TX; grandsons Mark Simmons, Scott Simmons, Payton Smith and Corey Cline; and 4 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Jimmy Simmons. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 28, in Wesley United Methodists Church. Rev. Leon Boggs will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home and from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
