Mary Lucille Gilmer Chapman, was born in Farmerville, La on April 25, 1927 to Tometta and Dewey Gilmer. She lived most of her life in Sulphur. Lucille was a faithful member of Maplewood First Baptist Church, where she served as Director of the day care center for approximately fourteen years. Prior to that she kept children in her home. She taught children's sunday school and worked vacation bible school every summer.
Lucille was an immaculate housekeeper and a great cook. She loved to entertain guests in her home. Lucille was a positive, loving, encouraging, easy going women who was committed to the Lord and her family. Her only regret in life was that she outlived her siblings and most of her friends.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Ted B. Chapman and wife, Marsha of Sulphur; daughter, Donna Sue Oates of Dallas, Tx; grandchildren: Walker Forsyth, Truett Forsyth, Cecilia Forsyth, Byler Chapman, Amelia Chapman, Philip Chapman, Blaire Chapman, Adam Oates, Meredith Oates, and Micah Oates.
Lucille was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph "J.B." Chapman; parents, Dewey and Tometta Gilmer; daughter, Debra Ann Chapman; son-in-law, Charles Oates; 4 sisters; and 4 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor Jeremy Blocker will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Pallbearers will be: Brad Forsyth, Walker Forsyth, Truett Forsyth, Jonathan Oates, Adam Oates, Sean Barron, Stan Czepiel and honorary Pallbearer, Jared Chapman.
