

He was a native and resident of Sulphur. Melvin retired as a Master Sargeant E-8 in the U.S. Army after 20 years, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, one tour in Korea, and two tours in Germany. He then retired again as a Construction Foreman and spent much of his time outdoors hunting, camping, and fishing. He loved spending time with his family. Melvin was a member of Sulphur First Church of Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Florence Buchanan Carlin; his mother, Patsy LeBrun Carlin; three daughters, Angelena Carlin, Catherine Higginbotham and husband, Dwayne, and Brenda Loftin and husband, Shane; three brothers, Larry Carlin, Charles Carlin, and Bert T. Carlin, Jr, all of Sulphur; three sisters, Brenda Doering and Kerry Carlin, both of Sulphur, and Millie Singley of DeQuincy; ten grandchildren, Alicia LeBlanc, Hailee Goncalves, Charlee Thibodeaux, Tyler Thibodeaux, Cody LeJeune, John Henry Loftin, Brandy Romero, Trey Thibodeaux, Amber Higginbotham, and Tyler Higginbotham. He is preceded in death by his father, Bert Carlin, Sr. and a brother, Mark Carlin.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Ronald Sherer and Mitchell Mora will officiate. Visitation is from 2 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday in the funeral home.
