

Michael Jay Cole, 79, of Sulphur, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. He was born to his late parents, Ralph and Helen Cole on October 12, 1946 in Ogdensburg, New York. He was a retired Navy Veteran and proudly served his country. Michael enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved watching Gunsmoke.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hazel Cole; children, Johnny Cole (Debra) of Summerville, South Carolina, Debbie Herndon (Ricky) of Sulphur; brother-in-laws, Henry Yocum of Sulphur, Rickie Primm of Vinton; sister-in-laws, Ruthie Rojas of Baton Rouge, Katie LaPointe of Sulphur, Minnie Hickman of Vinton; grandchildren, Chris Cole, Courtney Cole, Alan White (Jessica), Alyssa Place; two great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Also, a couple special friends, Michael and Kathy Cayton.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Michelle Lynn Cole; along with three brothers, David Cole, Peter Cole, and Jeff Cole.
Pallbearers will be: Aaron Reichard, Michael Reichard, Dustin Miller, Johnny Bumgarden, Franklin Bumgarden, Adam Bumgarden, and Darrell Miller.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Terry Wilkerson, Marty Vaughn, Michael Cayton, and Dr. Wayne Daigle.
A Celebration of Michael's life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Monday, July 6, 2026 at 10:30 am, with Rev. Phillip Cochran officiating. Visitation will begin prior to the service on Monday, beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will take place at the Southwest Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery in Jennings, Louisiana at 1:30 pm. The cemetery is located at: 1620 Evangeline Road, Jennings, Louisiana 70546.
