

Phil James Derouen, 60, of Carlyss, LA left this world on Friday, September 19, 2014 while doing what he loved, riding four wheelers and camping in the mountains with his wife in the Rio Grande National Forest of Colorado.
Phil was born on December 18, 1953 in Jennings, Louisiana to Lionel and Eunice Mary Derouen. He graduated from Bell City High School in 1971. Phil went on to graduate from Sowela in Electronics. He became a journeyman Electrician through IBEW Local 861 and worked as an Electrician in the construction field, and then 20 years of service as a Maintenance Electrician for SASOL, NA retiring on June 1, 2014. He was a USW Union champion for the rights of the working man. Phil had a passion for traveling, cooking, and political debates. He enjoyed rocking on the front porch drinking coffee with his grandkids and watching the squirrels.
He is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, William “Bill” Moriarty; sister-in-law, Patsy Derouen; and Godchild, Jennifer Derouen.
Phil leaves behind a large loving family including his loving wife of 40 years, Nancy Moriarty Derouen; one son, Brady Derouen and wife Monique; daughters, Melissa Fontenot and husband Todd, and Katie Creech and husband, Cory; seven grandchildren, Skyler, Lexis, Jacob, Madelyn, Laikyn, Macie, and Colin; brothers, Rodney and Alice Derouen of Woodville, Texas, Patrick Derouen of Lake Charles, and Ralph and Wanda Derouen of Lake Charles; mother-in-law, Leona Moriarty; sisters-in-law, Jean Moriarty and Janice Johnston; brother-in-law, Donald Moriarty, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014 in St. Theresa Catholic Church of Carlyss, preceded by a Rosary recited by the Catholic Daughters at 10:30 a.m. Father Joe Aquino will officiate. Please join the family for a life celebration at 2 p.m., hosted by the USW 13-555 Union Family at the hall located on 201 Center Circle Drive in Maplewood.
