While dementia robbed him of his mind, voice and mobility it did not rob him of the love he had for his family.
Rowe was preceded in death by his father, Philip Rust and his mother, Willie A Rust.
While a student at Northwestern State University, Rowe met and married Henri Lee Kelley. He is survived by her and their marriage of over 63 years set a Godly example for their children, Debra Kay Rust Guidry (Marshal) and Robert Rowe "Bob" Rust (Cindi) and his grandchildren, Erin Leigh Guidry, Rachel Elizabeth Rust, Chelsea Nicole Ardoin, and Brennan Alexander Ardoin.
In 1960 he and Henri moved to Maplewood and he accepted a teaching position at Maplewood Junior High, later known as Maplewood Middle School. He was dedicated to the teaching profession for 31 years sharing his knowledge of math and science to many. He enjoyed the pep rallies and working the time clocks and scoreboards for countless ball games in his earlier years.
Rowe was the ultimate fixer upper, sharing his skills with neighbors, friends, and passing that knowledge onto his children and son-in-law. If there was a project to be done he was there to help. He was always ready! Never known for resting, he worked until the disease robbed him of his abilities.
The family wants to give special thanks and acknowledge their caring and supportive neighbors and friends as well as the family of Maplewood First Baptist Church, where he attended and later served by donating his time during his retirement years, Dr. Brian Stewart, his physician and former student, Brighton Bridge Hospice and Staff, giving special thanks to Melinda Kellar, R.N., who took outstanding care of him along with the entire family, and Peggy Southern, the ultimate caregiver, for always treating him with dignity, grace, and respect.
Visitation will begin at noon until time of service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Maplewood First Baptist Church with Pastor Jeremy Blocker officiating. Burial will be on Friday in Pelican Cemetery in Pelican, LA under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Maplewood First Baptist Church Building Fund in Rowe's memory.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hixsonsulphurmemorial.com for the Rust family.
