Phyllis was called to her Heavenly Home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 20, 2021, having accepted Jesus as her savior at the age of 9. Phyllis passed while at home. Born in Mansfield, Louisiana in 1920, she lived in Jennings and Chicago.
After marriage to her husband Matthew, they moved to Sulphur in 1943. Phyllis was clerk of court in Sulphur for 29 years. Flowers were her hobby being a member of Southwest Louisiana Camellia Club and the Daylily Club.
Phyllis is survived by two sons, Robert of Lexington, Kentucky and Philip and wife, Doris Jean of DeQuincy; eight grandsons, twenty-three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years Matthew, son James, mother Lena Rees, father Henry Markham, and two brothers William B and LT. James M. Markham.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be privately held on Saturday under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Phyllis will be laid to rest next to her husband in Mimosa Pines Cemetery.
