

Dick was the third son, of twelve children born to Samuel Wallace Reed and Iona “Sis” Reed from Jennings, LA. After graduating from Jennings High School in 1966, he attended Durham Business College and then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served one tour in Vietnam during his 4 year of service. He began his 37-year career with Cities Services in 1972, finally retiring from now CITGO. He married Edith Dale (Benoit) Reed on May 7, 1973 and had been a resident of Sulphur, LA since.
Dick was a devoted member and Lay Minister at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur, LA and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid off-shore fisherman and hunter. He loved spending time on his boat fishing with his son. He was part of the Abrazondo Christo Missions to Nicaragua for many years and always eager to spend time the with children, helping to build their schools, churches, and nurseries. He loved to spend time in his shop building furniture or other wood working projects, especially little bird houses with his beloved granddaughter. Most of all he loved spending time with this family, siblings, and extended family.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Edith Dale Reed; Daughter Cheryl Christine Reed of Lake Charles, LA; son Richard “Ricky” Allen Reed Jr. and granddaughter Elizabeth Christine Reed of Carlyss, LA; brothers Tony Reed, Daniel Reed, Kenny Reed, and John Reed; sisters Elaine Walker, Margaret Stelly, and Liz Reed all of Jennings LA, and Kathy Carrier of Oberlin, LA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Wallace Reed, and Iona “Sis” Reed, along with his brothers Gary Paul Reed, Samuel Reed, and Thomas Reed.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 12, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Sulphur. Rev Aubry Gibeau will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home from 3-8 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. and visitation will continue at 8:30 a.m. until service on Monday.
