

Bob, a native of Ponca City, Oklahoma, has resided in Sulphur for the past 47 years. "Chevy" graduated from Ponca City High in 1947. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of the American Legion. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1956 from Oklahoma A & M, currently Oklahoma State University. Bob retired from Conoco (Westlake, LA Refinery) in 1991 as Chief Chemist after 43 years of employment. He enjoyed tinkering with his 1938 Ford Coupe and was a member of the Early Ford V8 Club. He volunteered with the Mended Hearts from St. Patrick’s Hospital. Bob’s greatest joy was his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and following in their sporting and musical events.
Survivors include his children Glenn Cowden and wife Kaye of Sadler, Texas and Ann McSpadden and husband Matthew of Lake Charles; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Martha Cowden; son, Thomas Cowden; parents, Albert and Emma Cowden; and sister, Grace Thompson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Monday, June 15, 2015 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday, 4 – 8pm with a Scripture Service and Rosary at 6pm and will resume Monday from 8 am – 9:30 am, all in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
Arrangements for Ponca City, Oklahoma will include a visitation from 9:30 - 10:30 am in Trouth Funeral Home followed by an 11 am graveside service in Resthaven Memorial Park. The Deacon Richard Robinson will officiate.
