Robert C. Landry
November 10, 1930 – September 27, 2013
Robert was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 27, 2013, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Jennings, Louisiana on November 10th , 1930 as the third son to Joseph Pierre Edgar Landry, Sr. and Clara Eve Hebert Landry. He spent his childhood in Jennings with his parents in a big house at the corner of Market and Main Street and served his Lord from an early age as an altar boy at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. He was a star running back for the Jennings High School Bulldog’s football team and played four seasons. He continued his athletic career by running track when he entered Southwest Louisiana Institute in Lafayette. He earned his bachelor degree in business and upon graduation joined the United States Air Force. He attended Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base then served as a transportation and logistics officer in Chateauroux, France. After leaving the Air Force he joined the reserves so that he could continue to serve his country while starting his career in business. He started working for General Adjustment Bureau and was moved to Lake Charles, LA. While working in Lake Charles he met Carolyn Grace Rutledge and was swept off his feet and the two wed on Aug. 22, 1958. The newlyweds bought a house in Sulphur and settled there to raise their family. Robert and Carolyn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 22, 2008. During his life in Sulphur and once he left the insurance business, Robert worked for Mike Hooks Dredging Co. for 15 years then transitioned into a short career in real estate. He was a 4th Degree Knight in the Immaculate Conception Knights of Columbus Council and was a past President for the Maplewood/Hollywood Lions Club. Robert kept a flag route for more than 20 years. He was a self-taught musician and loved playing guitar with his band, Austin Jones and Lagniappe. He volunteered with Care Help of Sulphur after retirement. Robert was a man of character and integrity that is sadly too rare in our society today. As a lifelong Catholic, he had a deep faith in Christ Jesus and is with Christ now for eternity. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him but will live in our hearts forever.
Robert is preceeded in death by his wife, Carolyn Landry, and his beloved daughter, Jennifer Ann Landry Travis, as well as his parents, JP and Clara Landry, and his brother and sister-in-law, Arthur E. & Ruth Brister Landry, and brother, Joseph Pierre Landry, Jr. and his dear niece, Nancy Landry Weidner. Travis, his grandchildren, Alexis Travis Albarado, Leslie Ann McCormick, Garrett Robert Landry, Julie Elizabeth McCormick, Katherine Rose McCormick, Kellie Grace McCormick, Faith Kelley Landry, and one great grandchild, Kristopher Albarado. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and Heart of Hospice.

My heart goes out to your family. Know that your dad will be missed by everyone. I'm sorry I couldn't make the wake or funeral. Besides working the night shift, I've got the Flu and didn't won't to pass it on to anyone. I don't want my parents worrying either. I wish I could have seen Laura and her children. I was thinking of you.

David, Laura, John and families,
We were so saddened by the loss of Uncle Robert. He was such a charming and loving part of our family with his many songs, guitar playing and humor of LSU. We won't be able to attend but know that each of you are in our prayers. We know to real the loss of a father. Heaven gained another angel and he is celebrating with the love of his life. May time comfort you and memories sustain you all. Love, Ginger and TJ
