Smitty was a Major with the Sulphur Police Department and retired in 2015 after 35 years of service. A lifelong resident of SWLA, he served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially spoiling his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 27 years, Nita Smith; children, Tanya Smith of Sulphur, Robert Smith, III "Little Robert" and wife Barbara of Tennessee, Terry Vice and wife Rosanne of Vinton, Rhonda Gragg and husband Macky of Sulphur, Jason Vice of Port Neches, TX, and Krysten Vice of Baton Rouge; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren with one on the way; and nine siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Smith, Sr. and Alvina "Pete" Smith.
Funeral service will be held 3pm, Wednesday, December 26th in Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. Edward Richard, M.S. will officiate. Burial will follow at Big Woods Cemetery.
