

Jim was a native of Shreveport and lived in Sulphur Over 50 years. He attended the First Baptist Church of Maplewood and the First Christian Church of Sulphur. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a Korean War Veteran as a Sergeant in the USMC. Jim cofounded the LARKS in 1968 and was a member of the Retreads Motorcycle Club. He was president and coowner of the Fabric House of Lake Charles. He loved his family.
Survivors include his daughter Sheila Chaline VanDyke of Lake Charles; sons Michael J. VanDyke of Lake Charles and John C. VanDyke of Sulphur; sister Dana V. Jones of Sulphur; granddaughter Sharon R. Chaline; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother Jessie Madolyne Robbins VanDyke; father Robert Vincent VanDyke; brother Richard "Dick" VanDyke; and sister Gloria V. Dixon.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, February 7, in the First Christian Church of Sulphur. The Rev. Mike Dickson will officiate. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery under the guidance of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
