Roland Ray “Smokey” Trosclair, Jr., 79, of Sulphur, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. He was born to his late parents, Roland Sr. and Dorothy Trosclair on September 5, 1945 in Burlington, Vermont. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years where he was the Manager of Yard Operations. The Railroad took him from Lake Charles, Louisiana; Houston, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Omaha, Nebraska; and finished his tour in Victoria, Texas. Smokey was an avid sports fanatic and was instrumental in the first tee ball league in Sulphur in the early 1970’s. He was always supportive of his children in whatever they took part in. He was a member of Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church where he was involved with CYO and also was a “Bingo Caller” at the church. Smokey was also the President of the Parish Council and Lay Minister at the church. Smokey loved playing golf and was an avid New Orleans Saints and LSU supporter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Trosclair; son, Craig Trosclair (Kim); daughters, Tina Atherton and Jaime Busby (Derrick); sister, Cathy Budish (Dan) all of Sulphur, Louisiana; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Diana Clark of Moss Bluff, Louisiana; eleven grandchildren, Corey Trosclair, Laykean Lintzen (Brandon), Chuck Atherton (Kyla), Chad Trosclair, Hannah LeDoux (Nick), Kyle Atherton (Amber), Hailey Christopher, Kolby Trosclair (Annaliese), Kassie Cornwell (Jay), Gracie Trosclair, and Jamie Nunez (Daniel); along with fifteen great grandchildren.
Smokey is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Christopher Trosclair, Kevin Trosclair, and Calvin Trosclair; sister, Jackie Trosclair; brother-in-law, Gene Clark; sister-in-law, Patsy Berry; son-in-law, Chuck Atherton; along with his grand son-in-law, Ryan Christopher.
A Celebration of Smokey’s life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 11:00 am, with Hixson Celebrant Jody Tyler. Visitation will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Monday, from 9:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines North Cemetery in Sulphur, Louisiana, with Father Ron Foshage officiating.
