Ruby C. Church

Ruby C. Church, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, in a local care center.She was a native of Moorehead, Miss., and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1963, coming from Baton Rouge. Ruby was a member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur and was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion Ladies Auxiliaries. She was a good mother and was an excellent cook.Survivors include her son, John Church of Lake Charles; sister, Willie Mae Henry of Sunflower, Miss.; four grandchildren, Shelley Church, Stacie O’Neal, Stephanie Church and Jacquelyn Shepherd; and four great-grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Davis Church Sr.; a son, Jeff Davis Church Jr.; her parents, Willie and Laura Cook; and siblings, Margaret Callender, Billie Ellis, Laverne Costello, Joe Cook and Leroy Cook.A celebration of Ruby’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss.
