Shirley Lorraine Miller Dunham

On March 2, 2018 our precious Mom, Mawmaw, Aunt changed her address from this earthly world to heaven, where she has wanted to be since the passing of her loving husband, Fred.

Mom entered the world on February 8, 1921 in Grand Chenier, La. She was one of eight children born to Raphiel and Georgia Nell (McCall) Miller. Mom lived in Grand Chenier until she met and married Fred, who was working in the area as a seismic crew member for Sun Oil. They were married June 14,1942, which was Mom's maternal grandparents' fiftieth wedding anniversary. Mom and Dad were married 65 years before his passing. Shortly after their marriage they lived in Beaumont, Thibodaux, and Port Sulphur. While in Port Sulphur, Fred received his "greetings" from Uncle Sam to fight in WW II. Mom then moved to DeQuincy to live with her mother-in-law until Dad returned from the war. Mom and Dad had four children: Jo Raye (Bob) Masengill, Fred "Sonny" (Polly) Dunham, Nell (Bob) Bartels, and Peggy (Ronnie) Prevost. The children were raised in a loving, Christian home. Mom helped Dad with his dry cleaning business while being a housewife and mother. From DeQuincy the family moved to Shreveport and then New Orleans. When Dad retired from the Army-National Guard, Mom and Dad returned to Grand Chenier, where they lived for over 20 years before moving to Plano, Tx., to spend their remaining years near their daughters.

Mom is preceded in death by Fred, her parents, her siblings, and great-grandson, Stephen Rogers.

Not only is Mom survived by her children but also by her grandchildren: Duane (Jennifer) Masengill, Rochelle Masengill, Susan (Jules) Kain, David Dunham, Stephanie (Jebbie) Rogers, Daniel Dunham, and William (Anna) Prevost. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Erik and James Masengill, Kelley and Collyn Kain, Watson and Anne Shirley Rogers, and Jesse Prevost. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge with deep appreciation the care, concern, and kindness given to Mom by the Agape Living Home (Jennifer English and the caregivers) and the staff of Visiting Nurse Ass. (hospice). For those attending the visitation and/or funeral, it was Mom's request that you wear bright colors because this is not a time of sorrow but a time of rejoicing. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be given to Louisiana Baptist Children's Home or a charity of your choice. Visitation and services will be held at Hixson Sulphur Funeral Home; visitation will be held March 6, 2018 from 5 to 9pm; services will be held March 7, 2018, at 2 pm. Burial will be at the Royer Cemetery, Sulphur, La.
