He was a native of Lake Charles, having been a 1972 graduate of LaGrange High School, and had been a resident of Sulphur for the last 44 years. He was of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. Steven worked as a flooring installer for Gilbert's Carpet and Floors for over 50 years. He was an avid McNeese Football and Basketball fan as well as for the New Orleans Saints. He enjoyed watching drag races, duck hunting and tracking hurricanes. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the USO, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl DeMary of Sulphur; his children, Rhonda DeMary Gass and husband, Alton of Leander, Texas, Steven DeMary, Jr. and wife, Shayna of Sulphur, and Courtney Gwin and husband, Kaleb of Starks; his brothers, Stan DeMary and Mark DeMary, both of Lake Charles, and Billy DeMary of Colcord, Oklahoma; his sister, Jody Collett of Sulphur; and his grandchildren, Sophia Gass, Josiah Gass, Kyle Istre, Chandler Istre, Ciara Guillory, Avril Gwin, and Vallen Rivard. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oreda and Maxine DeMary; his sister, Susan DeMary Johnson; and a grandson, Justin Phillips.
His funeral will be held at Noon on Monday, June 23 in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Hillis Jeffries will officiate. Burial will be in Rosepine Cemetery in Rosepine, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday in the funeral home.
