

Tommie Lou was born on August 10, 1931 in New Orleans to Otto and Virginia Abshire. She was a longtime resident of Sulphur, having also lived in Vinton, Longville, and Carlyss. She was a 1948 graduate of Sulphur High School, graduate of McNeese State University with a BS in Education, Masters Degree in Education with concentration in Library Science, Specialist Degree in Reading, and also held a Real Estate License. Tommie Lou had been a teacher and librarian at Vinton Elementary School. She enjoyed traveling in the family motor home, reading the Bible, doing crafts, passing on her knowledge of science, history and the English language, love of learning, flowers, and gardening. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America Our Lady of LaSalette Court # 1255 in Sulphur.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Tommie Stutes of Carlyss; her children, Kathé Letulle and husband, Derrel of Kerrville, Texas, Tommie Lynn Stutes and wife, Carolyn of Westlake, and Dennis Stutes and wife, Charlene of San Diego, California; Grandchildren, Samantha Gibson and husband, Jim of Perkins, Oklahoma, Steven Young and wife, Rochelle of Morrison, Oklahoma, Adrienne Cottrell and husband, Chaun of Hemet, California, David Stutes and wife, Jeannie of Killeen, Texas, Jennifer Lavergne and husband, Kurt of Lafayette, and Jessica High and husband, Brian of Lake Charles; Great-grandchildren, Mathew Schlehuber of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Thomas Lumpkin of Perkins, Oklahoma, Raelynn Parham of Morrison, Oklahoma, Teigen Young of Austin, Texas, Brenton Stutes of Killeen, Texas, StevieJoLynn Young of Morrison, Oklahoma, Kyla Page Stutes of Killeen, Texas, Elizabeth High of Lake Charles, and Cazwell Cottrell of Hemet, California; Great-great-grandchildren, Daxton Peyton of Perkins, Oklahoma; her sister, June Cole of Spring, Texas, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, in St. Theresa Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Aquino will officiate. Entombment will be in Roselawn Mausoleum in Sulphur under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. and will resume at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The family would like to give thanks to Helping Hands Ministry of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council # 8058, Heart of Hospice, Mr and Mrs Ernest Granger, Mr A J Boullion, and Tommie's caregiver, Bessie Irvin.
