She was born on November 15, 1920 in Montpelier, Mississippi. She would have been 98 years old on Thursday. Mrs. Finnie attended Sunflower Junior College and MSCW in Mississippi, majoring in Home Economics. She was employed by Cities Service where she met her future husband, Thomas J. Finnie, Sr. They were married on June 1, 1947 and lived in Maplewood for 32 years until his death in 1980. She loved to dance, knit and crochet, and she was a Sulphur High Band Booster, was a substitute teacher at Maplewood Elementary School, and played the spoons for the Maplewood Rackettes. Her favorite thing was playing Bingo at Holly Hill Nursing Home.
Vee is survived by her children, Thomas Finnie, Jr. and wife, Bo of Carlyss and Betty Lou Drost of Lakeland, Florida; five grandchildren, Katie Maddox (Thomas), Aimee_Benoit (Michael), Wendy Kleinpeter (Dennis), Danny Drost (Sandra), and Bill Drost (Amanda); and seventeen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Finnie, Sr.; her parents; and four brothers.
A Celebration of Virginia's Life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home led by Jody Barrilleaux, Celebrant. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Lake Charles. Visitation is from 1 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday in the funeral home.
