He was a native of Welsh and had been longtime resident of Westlake. Walter proudly served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He worked at PPG Industries as a heavy equipment operator and retired after over 30 years of service. He enjoyed working in the yard, running, playing tennis, swimming, and working with his hands. He was always willing to help others in need.
Survivors include his wife, Billie LaBauve Cormier; daughters, Diane Allen of Hayes and Valerie Ann Heflin and husband, Cecil of Hemphill, Texas; his grandchildren, Brandi Picard, Rodney Ducote III, Christina Allen, Brandon Allen, and Steven Allen; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Felicia Cormier and Edna Mallett Richard; his siblings, Dorothy Mathis, Elizabeth Cormier, Clifton Cormier, Roma Richard, Jerry Richard, and Wilford Cormier.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Cody James, Carson James, Jeremy Allen, Tyler Ducote, Kyle Picard, and Rodney Ducote, III.
