Betty C. Ward was born in Sac City, Iowa on January 1, 1938 to Paul and Mabel Anderson. Betty had two siblings; a brother Charles, who passed away as a newborn, and a sister Cheryl. Betty graduated at the head of her class with honors. She went to business school in Omaha, Nebraska, and then moved to Washington State. Betty married Don Ward on April 3, 1964. Between them, they had five children, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In 1965, Betty and Don built a house in Sumner, WA. In 1969, they started a little tinker and fix-it shop at their home, which grew to become Ward Systems, Inc. The business grew too big for the house and they moved it to an industrial park in Kent, WA. Eventually, they brought the business back to Sumner and built their own building. Betty was the office manager/owner and Don was the president/owner and engineer. Together they built a successful business and retired from it in 1985.
When Betty and Don retired, they moved to Hawaii, built a house and lived there for the first few years of their retirement. They started to miss family, so they moved back to the Sumner area, building another house in Lake Tapps. They have spent the last twenty years there.
Betty loved to travel and take pictures. She has taken pictures of sunsets from all over the country. She also liked to visit casinos occasionally, and spend time with family and friends. Betty was a patriot and a strong believer in the constitution and our amendment rights. Betty has overcome many struggles in her life and was a fifteen-year cancer survivor. In March of 2010, Betty suffered a stroke and in April 2010 was diagnosed with small-cell lung cancer. She lost this last battle on July 4, 2010. She will be greatly missed and always loved.
