Clio Albert Maass passed away April 3, 2017 in Sumner. He was 83 years old.
Clio was born June 17, 1933 in Bancroft, South Dakota to Reinhart and Inez (Custard) Maass. He came to the Puyallup area in 1943 with his family. Clio graduated from Puyallup High School in 1951, majoring in woodshop and lettering in tennis. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity at the University of Washington and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Business Administration. In 1956, he married Barbara Keller and they raised two sons in Puyallup.
Clio spent the majority of his career with the Boeing Company, where he worked as a purchasing agent. During Seattle’s economic downturn in the early 1970s, he operated Exxon gas stations to support his family, eventually returning to Boeing in the mid-70s, where he remained until his retirement in 1995.
Clio and Barbara built a beach retreat in Ocean Shores, where they loved walking the beach with family and friends. After retirement, they spent winters in Yuma, Arizona where they bicycled, walked, and explored the desert with longtime friends from Puyallup. They also adored their annual trip to Kihei, Maui.
Clio loved to work with his hands. He was an accomplished auto mechanic and enjoyed refinishing furniture. He always believed that if you had a long enough lever and a big enough rock, you could move the world.
Clio is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara, and two sons, Kurt (Robin Farrar) and Mark (Robin Benner), and five grandchildren, Megan Maass, Colin Maass, Whitney Dygert (Eben), Kelsey Maass, and Tim Maass, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Geraldine (Gerry) Bogrand.
A memorial service for Clio will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 20 at Experience Church, 10012 - 122nd St E, Puyallup 98373. The family requests donations be made in Clio’s name to Experience Church.
