Joseph known by many names, Todd, Dad, Toad, JZ, Jonesy and a few others, was born on September 16, 1942 in Portland, Oregon. Todd worked on the railroad in Eastern Oregon in his younger years. In 1963 he joined the Air Force serving most of his four year enlistment in Germany and laying the ground work for a long successful aviation career.
In 1967 he was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and was stationed at the Air Route Control Center (ARTCC) near Auburn, Washington. After working several years as an Air Traffic Controller, he continued to grow and excel in his profession. While working as a software expert at the Seattle ARTCC he established navigation programs that are used today nationwide. One of the largest among these being a "Ground Proximity Warning" for all aircraft in United States airspace. This software provides an alert in the cockpit when aircraft are "projected" to be to close to terrain. It is difficult to calculate how many lives this program has saved.
His professionalism, attention to detail, responsibility to his profession, and caring about ATC highlight who he was. Todd's intensity was infectious, given a problem, he was a dog with a bone; he would not quit till he solved it.
Todd enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and many other outdoor activities. After retirement, spending time with Margaret, his dog Lola, family and friends became a high priority. He approached each with the same intensity.
Todd is survived by his loving wife Margaret, two daughters: Tammy Kamp and Josie Jones. He also leaves behind sister Valda Dryden, five grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to St. Judes Research Hospital
