Aldo Guidi, age 90, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016, at Hospice of the Valley in Glendale, Arizona. He was born in Lucca, Italy. As a young man Aldo joined the carabinieri, the national military police of Italy, and spent 18 months in German prisoner camps after his unit was captured by Germany during World War II. He came to the United States in 1949 to visit his sister, where he met his future wife, Josephine. They were married in 1950 and took up residence in Chicago.
Aldo served for a time with the Illinois National Guard and began a long career as a route supervisor with a Chicago baking company. He and Josephine had five children and were married for 60 years. He was a hard working man who took good care of his family. In the 1950s and 1960s Aldo sometimes went pheasant hunting. Along with being a skilled handyman around the house, he was an excellent cook. Aldo and Josephine retired to Arizona in the late 1980s, where he would occasionally serve as chef for various functions given by their home owners association in Sun City. His minestrone soup was outstanding and loved by his entire family. He and his wife were also active in the local Italian American Club.
Aldo was preceded in death by his wife Josephine and daughter Debra, along with a sister and brother. He will be greatly missed by his remaining family: children Linda (Michael) Topolovec, Michael (Angela) Guidi, Shari (Charlie) Starck, and Julie (Donald) Wimmer; grandchildren Christine (Jay) Sears, Paula (Jon) Casey, Amanda (Josh) Sohn, Joseph Guidi, Matthew (Rachel) Guidi, Daniel (Ashley) Starck, Kimberly Starck, Kaitlyn Wimmer, and Andrew Wimmer; and great-grandchildren Jaycob Sears, Aiden Sears, Caiden Casey, Violet Casey, Adelena Sohn, Ellana Sohn, Eva Sohn, and William Starck.
