

Bernard John Kozub, 92, of Sun City, Arizona passed away October 2, 2021. Bernard was born on May 19, 1929 in South Chicago, Illinois to Stephen and Anna (Pietraszek) Kozub. Bernard graduated from Bowen High School, Class of 1947. After graduation, he played minor league baseball for the Chicago Cubs Organization from 1947 through 1951 as well as from 1953 through 1955. In 1951, Bernard left the Cubs Organization to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Bernard worked for the Skokie Police Department from 1958 through 1980. During this time, he rose to the rank of Sergeant and Supervisor of the Crime Prevention Unit. He also attended the FBI Academy graduating on May 28, 1969, finishing 10th in his Class. In 1980, Bernard retired from the Police Department and moved to Glendale, Arizona. In Arizona, he worked as a Supervisor for the South Golf Course as well as the Quail Run Golf Course in Sun City.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Raymond Kozub; and his brother-in-law Raymond Buchanan. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Joan (Jeleniewski) Kozub; his son Stephen Kozub; his daughter Suzanne (Michael) Burke; and his three grandchildren Matthew (Grace) Burke, Daniel Burke, and Kelly Burke; as well as his sister Rita Buchanan and his brother Paul (Mary) Kozub.
