

Born July 6, 1919, in Davenport, Iowa, Betty was the daughter of the late Esther Burmeister (nee Smallfield) and Walter Burmeister. She was married for 69 years to Walter J. House, who preceded her in death on September 11, 2010.
Betty is survived by her brother, Paul, of Davenport, IA, and by her three children, daughter, Jane (Jim) Campbell of Glendale, AZ, and sons, Terry of Sheboygan, WI, and Stephen of Sun City West, AZ. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Suzette (Landis) Abrams of Peoria, AZ, Amanda Dragoo of Phoenix, AZ, Scott Dragoo of Iowa City, IA, and one great-grandchild, Sydney Alvarado of Fullerton, CA.
Mrs. House graduated from Davenport (Central) High School in 1937, and from Brown’s Business School, Davenport, IA.
She married her late husband Walter on June 28, 1941, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Davenport, IA.
She worked as an administrative assistant for Kohr’s Packing Company in Davenport, IA, from 1937 until 1941.
Betty worked for a number of volunteer organizations, both in Iowa and in Nashville, TN, where her husband served with the Navy during the Korean War. She and her husband were early members of St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, IA. Her hobbies included playing bridge and canasta, knitting, letter writing, reading and gourmet cooking.
Retiring to Sun City West, AZ, in 1980, Walter and Betty House were founding members of Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
Graveside services are pending at Sunland Memorial Park and Mortuary, Sun City, AZ.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is preferred.
